Last night, I received horrible news. My sweet Aunt Liz (well, really my mom's cousin, but has become like a mother to me) found out she has ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It's a disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, a disease that they do not yet have a cure for. (You completely lose all muscle movement.) I've had two other Aunts who have passed away from the same disease, and I could not be more devastated by the news. When I heard the words come out of my mother's mouth, I was hoping and wishing that she wasn't serious. Liz and her family have become such a huge part of my life, and more importantly, Liz has been a best friend to my mom. She has the sweetest family, and also has a daughter with Cerebral Palsy. She is such an incredible, loving woman who has touched my life so much.
When I heard the news, all I kept thinking was, What can I do? And all my mom could say was that they're too busy finding a cure for AIDS to come up with a cure for ALS. (She kills me sometimes.) I obviously took those words strongly because I came up with this: Operation Chic for a Cause. I thought I'd do some more good with this blogging platform of mine. As you may know, I have my Etsy shop that I've talked about, right? Well, now it's even better, because 20% of EVERY purchase will be donated to ALS Research.
You can also donate cash via Paypal just by clicking the "Donate" button in my right sidebar. I would seriously love so much if you would spread the word about this wonderful cause, post it on your blog/facebook/instagram etc. and help out if you can! Thank you all so much.
Here are a few things I have up in my shop right now:
